Dr Mohan has specialist expertise in managing patients with cough, breathlessness, wheeze and recurrent chest infections. He has vast experience in treating patients with Asthma, Bronchitis, Bronchiectasis, COPD and Emphysema. He works closely with his colleagues in physiology, radiology, physiotherapy, and thoracic surgery to ensure patients receive the best care. Dr Mohan puts new technology and patient safety at the forefront and accordingly developed several respiratory services.
He developed the award winning Knowsley Community COPD service. Dr Mohan has specialist interest in COPD and set up the severe emphysema multidisciplinary meeting for surgical and endobronchial lung volume reduction procedures. In carefully selected patients, he inserts small endobronchial valves, in lungs of patients with COPD and emphysema. This blocks the worst affected parts of the lung and improves breathing.
Dr Mohan set up the Interventional Pulmonology service in Liverpool and receives referrals from several hospitals. He is a skilled, high volume operator in procedures such as Bronchoscopy, Transbronchial biopsy, Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS > 2500 procedures), Radial EBUS, Cryotherapy, Argon plasma coagulation and Balloon dilation.
Dr Mohan is passionate about teaching and plays an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate education. He is an invited speaker at regional and national conferences. He has trained several registrars, fellows and consultants in thoracic ultrasound and interventional pulmonology procedures. He is a member of several national and international societies.
Dr Mohan carried out research in Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes and has 22 publications and presented over 80 abstracts at National and International conferences. He is a specialist advisor to NICE on endobronchial valves in pneumothorax and Thopaz chest drain.
